Scarborough's Missing Theatre May Return

Hey Scarborough! Here's what's happening this week π
The Capitol has been shut since Mecca pulled out last October, and before that it was a bingo hall, and before that a cinema. Now the Capitol Theatre Trust wants to restore the 1929 Art Deco building as a 1,500-seat touring venue. The town hasn't had a stage that size since the Futurist came down in 2018.
Whitby, meanwhile, is getting on with it. The Whitby 60s Spectacular turns 21, with Paul Jones of Manfred Mann headlining three days at the Pavilion from 18 September. It began as one weekend a year; it's now two, and the 2027 dates are already in the diary.
Seaham Hall sits further up the coast in County Durham, about ten minutes' walk from the beach. The outdoor spa garden has been rebuilt with infinity pools, a cold plunge and fire pits, and spa access comes with every stay, so there's no upselling at the desk when you arrive. It's an easy run up the A19 and far enough from home to feel like you've actually gone somewhere.
And if the North Sea in September feels a little close to home, this restored monastery in Cappadocia is built into the caves and rock houses that the region is known for. It's minutes on foot from the castle and the fairy chimney landscape, which means you can be looking at all of it before breakfast rather than queueing for a coach to take you there.
