5ft Mouse Found On Local Beach

Hey Scarborough! Here's what's happening this week ๐Ÿ‘‹

Stephen Charlton left Yorkshire 46 years ago, and he's marked coming back by putting a 5ft bronze mouse doing a handstand on the sand at Sandsend. It's his first Yorkshire piece since he went, and it's already pulling people down the beach for a look. A dog is next, he says.

Scarborough Town Council, meanwhile, has set aside ยฃ45,000 for premises contingencies while staff move across to Resolution House and the Town Hall's future is worked out. It's money held back rather than money spent, which seems fair enough given nobody quite knows yet what the building will need.

If you fancy a couple of nights somewhere quieter, Aldwark Manor sits in 200 acres of North Yorkshire countryside, with an 18-hole course, good food and enough on the estate that you needn't go anywhere else.

Or if you'd rather go somewhere warm, H10 Conquistador in Playa de las Amรฉricas has had its interiors redone - bright, modern, faintly nautical - with the promenade at the door, the beach a short walk and a spa on site.

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Staffless Glamping Pods Proposed at Ruswarp. Four timber pods and a lodge could go up on a former builder's yard at Glen Esk near Whitby. It would be the national park's first site run remotely, managed from a house in Whitby.

๐Ÿš” Anti-Social Behaviour Falls on Coast. Across the coastal police command area, anti-social behaviour fell 5.1% on last year, though the deputy mayor accepts residents may not feel it. Average 101 waits are now under four minutes.

๐Ÿš’ Busy Day for Scarborough Fire Crews. Tuesday ran to six callouts across the day, from a hedge fire at Eastfield to a five-metre bonfire in Suffield. A reported campfire on Marine Drive proved to be a barbecue.

๐ŸŽ Godber's Highwayman Rides Into the Round. The Stephen Joseph hosts John Godber's new highway robbery drama from 7-10 October, set in a 1769 Yorkshire flush with gin and easy money. Tickets start at ยฃ10.

๐Ÿบ Comedian's Pub Crawl Reaches Scarborough. Andy Parsons plays the Stephen Joseph Theatre on 12 November, after an iNews piece reflecting on the historic alehouses found on tour. Twenty years on the road, most of it measured in pubs.

๐Ÿจ MP Objects to Hotel Accommodation Plan. Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume has objected to the emergency accommodation scheme, raising significant concerns. More than a dozen residents have also written in. The council is still reviewing the applications.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Clifftop House Refused at Hunmanby Gap. Plans to replace a bungalow on Gap Road with an eight-metre, five-bed house have been refused over land stability and scale. The slope has been shifting since before the originals were built.
