Ramshill Road isn't the sort of street that usually makes headlines, but in the early hours of Wednesday it did, for the worst reasons. A man and woman sleeping rough there were left needing hospital treatment after what police are calling a suspected irritant attack. One woman's been arrested, but officers say others may have been involved, so this one isn't finished yet.
Elsewhere, North Yorkshire's school transport rules are causing a different kind of headache. Councillors want the council to scrap its "nearest school only" policy after a mapping error caught out families near Scalby School. The irony is that a change meant to save money could end up costing an extra five million pounds a year instead.

🚨 Irritant Thrown At Rough Sleepers. A man and woman sleeping rough on Ramshill Road were treated in hospital after being attacked in the early hours of Wednesday. One woman is under arrest - but police say others may be involved.

🌊 Seafest Splashes Down At The Spa. Scarborough Seafest returns this weekend, moving to Scarborough Spa for the first time as part of the town's 400th birthday. Saturday closes with fireworks and headliner Sunbeam. Admission is free.
🚗 Car Park Shuts, Reason Undisclosed. TransPennine Express is closing Scarborough Station's car park for one day on Monday 20 July, telling drivers not to leave vehicles overnight. It follows a £14 million restoration finished earlier this year.
🏡 Mayor Unveils Ten-Year Rural Plan. Mayor David Skaith launched a plan promising 5,000 new rural homes and a 20% economic boost for farming, unveiled at the Great Yorkshire Show. His report found more than half of commercial farms are unsustainable.
🌳 Five Coastal Parks Win Green Flags. Falsgrave Park, Peasholm Park, South Cliff Gardens, Filey's Glen, Crescent Gardens, and Whitby's Pannett Park all secured Green Flag status.

📞 999 Calls Nearly Double This Summer. North Yorkshire Police logged almost 4,000 calls in a single week - up from 2,400 last year - citing hot weather, the World Cup, and tourists. Officers still answer 80% of calls within five minutes.
