🏨 Anti-Social Behaviour Row in Scarborough. Neighbours of The Lodge on Valley Road report drug use and fighting at all hours; police visits to the street rose from 211 in 2024 to 695 in 2025. North Yorkshire Council decides this summer.
🎒 School Transport Rule Stays Put. Councillors rejected a motion to reverse the nearest-school-only policy, referring it back to committee. Analysis suggests the rule could cost up to £5 million a year - officers had forecast £3 million in savings.
🚌 Buses Reach Eastfield Diagnostic Centre. A £33,333 grant will extend services 7 and 7A to Scarborough's new Community Diagnostic Centre, up to six buses an hour at peak. The centre opened two and a half years behind schedule.

🚕 Taxi Fares Rise Five Per cent. Maximum hackney carriage rates in Scarborough, Whitby and Filey rise from 1 August, taking tariff one to £2.33 per mile. The consultation that prompted the change drew five responses.
🏥 Care Hub Planned for Eastfield. A three-storey 60-bed facility on Pelton Wheel Lane would ease hospital discharges, offering short-term, intermediate and dementia care. The shortfall it addresses was identified in 2023; no decision date is set.
🐻❄️ Whitby Polar Bear Stays Put. Health food chain Grape Tree has been approved to refurbish the Sandgate store, after civic society concerns about the statue outside. It commemorates a live bear cub brought to Whitby in the early 1800s.
🛗 Five Rescued From Scarborough Lift. Firefighters freed five people from a lift on St Nicholas Cliff at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday. Crews released them using lift keys, then called an engineer to inspect it.
🌹 Yorkshire Day at Market Hall. Scarborough Market Hall and Vaults marks the day on Saturday 1 August with live music, food and crafts from local makers and producers. Doors open at 10 am, and it runs until 4 pm.
