Monday was hot, the town was full, and Scarborough Hospital had the busiest day it's recorded at this point in the year. The trust's boss put it plainly - the numbers outstripped anything they'd seen before - which lands in a July where twelve-hour trolley waits have already climbed two months running, and the trust is £22m short of where it needs to be.
The visitors adding to that footfall are at the centre of a separate argument. Four Conservative MPs have asked the mayor to pause the proposed visitor levy, arguing it falls on family holidays and on the firms putting those families up. Whether it stops at overnight stays is still unsettled.

🏥 Hospital Trust Facing £22m Deficit. For the first time, the trust running Scarborough Hospital has failed to agree its annual plan with NHS England this late in the financial year. A £62m savings drive still leaves a £22m shortfall.
🔥 Field Fire Near Filey Contained. Six crews tackled a blaze in crops off Bridlington Road at Graffitoe Farm Campsite, Hunmanby, on Tuesday evening, with neighbouring farmers arriving in tractors and water bowsers. Around 20 acres burned.
🛏️ MPs Push Back on Visitor Levy. Four Conservative MPs want the mayor to pause the proposed visitor levy, saying it would land on family holidays and the firms hosting them. Whether it stops at overnight stays is still undecided.

⚱️ £2.5m to Replace Crematorium Cremators. Councillors meet on August 4 to approve new cremators at Woodlands Crematorium in Scarborough, replacing gas units fitted in 2004. More than 3,000 cremations have taken place there in the past three years.
🍖 Councillors Push Disposable Barbecue Ban. Senior North Yorkshire councillors want to ban disposable barbecues outright in open countryside, a year after the Langdale blaze. Firefighters put that fire down to a barbecue set left behind.
🌿 £5m Recovery Begins on Fylingdales Moor. Government funding will restore thousands of hectares of moor and reopen paths after last summer's fire, the largest in the National Park's history. Crews were still fighting it on 23 September.

🔥 Fire Services Warn Before School Holidays. Yorkshire's fire and rescue services have launched a region-wide wildfire prevention campaign, asking people to keep barbecues and open flames off the moors. Last August's Langdale and Fylingdales fire burned 25 square kilometres.
🏘️ Community Grants Double to £1,000. Beyond Housing has reopened its community fund for local projects in Scarborough, Whitby and surrounding areas, with the ceiling doubled from £500. Last year 52 bids sought £25,000; 21 got funded.
