⚽ Boro Finally Heads Home. The new 3G pitch at Scarborough Sports Village should be ready by late June, with competitive games back in August. Scarborough Athletic spent the whole 2025/26 season playing home fixtures at Bridlington.

🎰 Roof First, Ask Later. The owners of Funland on Whitby's Pier Road replaced their storm-battered roof, then applied for permission. The council has yet to set a date to rule on a roof that's already on.
🏛️ Locals Fight Hall Sale. Trustees want to sell Newby and Scalby's hall to the owners of Wilsons Food Hall, despite 100 residents packing a meeting against it. A councillor has asked the Charity Commission to investigate.
🎸 Cottage Aid Returns to Hunmanby. After eight years off, the all-day music event is back at the Cottage Inn on Sunday, June 21, from noon, with nine acts and a barbecue. It's in aid of the volunteer-run Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary.
🚽 Royal Flush at Royal Parade. Filey's temporary toilets are more than doubling to 13, up and running by June 19 after the old block was deemed unsafe. The permanent fix is still only being "explored."
🌳 A Plan to Save the Trees. North Yorkshire's executive votes Tuesday on a new woodland policy that leans harder on Tree Preservation Orders and asks developers to keep hedgerows and trees. For now, those remain expectations rather than rules.
🛑 Danger Bank Stays Shut. Glen Esk Road, closed since August 2024 after a landslip on the Ruswarp to Larpool Lane route, won't reopen until 2027 at the earliest. The original 2026 repair plan collapsed after further slippage over winter made the design unusable.

🎭 Fringe is On. Scarborough's third Fringe Festival is running now until June 21, with 115 events across town covering theatre, comedy, music and children's shows. Most are free or low-cost - which is what sets it apart from the bigger festivals.
🗺️ Moors in Your Pocket. The North York Moors National Park has launched a free mobile app with more than 100 walking and cycling routes, GPX downloads and points of interest. Search "North York Moors Outdoors" on the App Store or Google Play.
🪑 Wackers Eyes the Pavement. Scarborough's Wackers chippy on Vernon Road has applied for a licence to put three tables and nine chairs outside on the street. Anyone wanting to comment has until June 24.
🤗 Ainsley Scarborough'd. TV chef Ainsley Harriott visited Cooplands on June 10 to launch a limited-edition collab, and told the Scarborough News he'd never been hugged so much in his life. The chilli chocolate brownies and Mexican chilli pasties both sold out.
