A decade after their wedding at Ox Pasture Hall, Wesley and Chloe Nunns have bought the place. The Grade II-listed country house near Scarborough went into administration in February, and the Nunnses came out the other end of it as owners of Asquith Hall Hotel & Spa. It has now reopened.
Scarborough Athletic, meanwhile, are returning to Scarborough Sports Village next season after their year in Bridlington. Chairman Trevor Bull welcomed the news and then, in the same breath, noted that the donations keeping the club going this season won't repeat themselves. So: progress, of a kind.
If September feels far off, Lipstick On Your Collar at the Spa's 1626 Suite is worth getting in the diary now - a full live band doing the 50s and 60s properly, on Sunday 20th September. Tickets via the box office or 01723 376774.

🥾 Mulgrave Opens the Gates. The Mulgrave Estate has launched three new walking routes covering 17.4 miles of woodland and farmland between Sandsend, Runswick, and the Esk Valley. They were designed by Lord Normanby - better known as novelist Constantine Phipps.
🎤 Fifty Years Never Sounded So Good. The Spa's 1626 Suite hosts Lipstick On Your Collar on Sunday, 20th September - a full live band playing the classics of the 50s and 60s. Tickets via the Spa box office or 01723 376774.
🏨 York's Leading Luxury Hotel Has 30% Off Until June. Walking distance from the train station and The Shambles, with a vault spa that opened last year. The discount applies to B&B and dinner, B&B rates and runs until 30 June. Check it out.
🏆 Seamer Farm Shop Takes on The Savoy. Wilsons Food Hall - the independent deli, bistro, and bakery that opened in Seamer last November - has won the FSB Start Up Business award for Yorkshire, the Humber, and the North East, beating over 2,000 entries. The national final is at The Savoy on 4th June.

🎸 Whitby Does the Sixties. Again. The Whitby 60s Spectacular returns to Whitby Pavilion on the West Cliff for its 21st year, with five shows across 5th-7th June featuring Steve Ellis, The Fourmost, and tributes to Elvis, The Beatles, and more. Weekend passes are £125; individual sessions are from £20.
🚬 Drop It and It'll Cost You. North Yorkshire Council issues a £150 fixed penalty for littering - down to £105 for early payers - and a new Public Space Protection Order approved on 1st May now covers nine locations across Scarborough and Whitby, with fines up to £1,000.

🥃 Whitby Distillery Doubles Its Money. The distillery's crowdfunding campaign has raised £380,000 - nearly twice the £200,000 target it set out to reach.
✈️ Scarborough Firms Go Global. A third round of the Get Exporting programme has unlocked £265,000 in grants for businesses in the York and North Yorkshire region, with Analox Group, HR Higgins, and TestCard each landing £10,000. HR Higgins used theirs to exhibit at a trade show in Tokyo.
🍺 Last Orders for The Duchess? Plans have been submitted to convert The Duchess pub on Hovingham Drive into three flats, prompting a campaign from CAMRA members and town councillors who want it saved as a community hub. North Yorkshire Council has yet to set a date for a decision.
🚴 The Peloton Is Coming Back. North Yorkshire Council has committed £200,000 over two years to host two stages of the Tour of Britain, with the first arriving in September 2026. Each stage is estimated to bring between £2m and £12m into the local economy.
🏫 Whitby Parents Want Answers. More than 60 parents, students, and local leaders packed a public meeting in Whitby after Whitby School's decision not to join a new education partnership - raising concerns over safeguarding, attendance, and supply teacher reliance. MP Alison Hume said the coast has been forgotten by the council for many years.
🥇 £25 Box. £5,000 Medal. One of Three. A bronze medal commemorating the death of James Cook - found at a West Yorkshire car boot sale in a job lot of medals - has been bought by the Captain Cook Memorial Museum in Whitby for £5,000. Only two other examples are known to exist, and it will go on display in 2028 for the 300th anniversary of Cook's birth.
🌱 Filey Races to Buy Its Own Backyard. Residents have until Thursday to submit a sealed bid for a neglected plot on Queen Street in Filey - minimum £7,500 - before it potentially goes to private development. They've already raised £11,500 between town council funding and community pledges.
