Money's on the agenda elsewhere too. North Yorkshire Council is working out what happens if an overnight visitor levy lands here, and it's coastal hoteliers who'd feel it first. A small charge across 41 million annual visitors adds up to something like £50 million.
And down in the harbour, the Regal Lady is up for sale at £250,000, listed as a bar and cafe. She made three crossings to Dunkirk and brought back more than 1,200 men, and she's been tied up here since 1987.

🏥 Maternity Rating Upgraded to Good. The CQC has raised Scarborough Hospital's maternity services from inadequate to good after a spring inspection, citing safer triage and steadier staffing. Inspectors also found several fire doors wedged open.

🌿 Seaweed Firm Lands Mayor's Backing. Scarborough's SeaGrown has won money from the Carbon Negative Challenge Fund to expand its seaweed and shellfish growing in the North Sea. The amount has not been disclosed.
✨ Baxtergate Gets a Winter Programme. Volunteers start with a clean-up on Monday, launching a year of events on Baxtergate funded by £89,353 from the mayor. October's theme is Halloween and Goth Weekend, which in Whitby is barely a theme.
🏍️ Goldwing Parade Returns to South Bay. Around 100 illuminated motorcycles parade along the South Bay seafront on Saturday 12 September, with road closures from 7.30 pm. The traditional fireworks finale has been dropped over wildfire concerns.
♨️ Fracking Well to Heat Kirby Misperton. A well drilled for fracking will supply low-carbon heat to the village, starting with an office, hotel and church. Pickering is exploring geothermal at its swim centre and infant school.
