Council Spends Β£3 Million To Move Office

In partnership with

Hey Scarborough! Here's what's happening this week πŸ‘‹

Three million pounds sounds steep until someone puts the alternative in front of you.

That's the figure for moving council staff into Resolution House out by the A64, which officials point out is cheaper than the Β£19 million of repairs the ageing offices would otherwise need. What happens to Scarborough Town Hall after that is still anyone's guess.

Money's on the agenda elsewhere too. North Yorkshire Council is working out what happens if an overnight visitor levy lands here, and it's coastal hoteliers who'd feel it first. A small charge across 41 million annual visitors adds up to something like Β£50 million.

And down in the harbour, the Regal Lady is up for sale at Β£250,000, listed as a bar and cafe. She made three crossings to Dunkirk and brought back more than 1,200 men, and she's been tied up here since 1987.
